Here I am, life is unfair, I’m a victim of circumstance, there’s nothing I can do about it, I feel sorry for myself, I hate what I’m doing, the world owes me, I’m jealous of other people, this is my life. Does this at all sound familiar??
Your emotions and thoughts are meant to keep you in place. For example lets say I pitch a new ideal to you about how I think something needs to be done, you listen to the idea but then your thoughts/emotions automatically spark doubt and most people are addicted to comfort so they would prefer not to get involved only to then see you succeed and then want to get involved. By that time it’s to late.
The different between the people who get good or not, are those that actually take action, put yourself out there and let go. Ask yourself a question, how much are you willing to take before you actually do it??
Your emotions most of the time keep you in place, they make you doubt whether or not you can actually achieve whatever it is you are going for, guess what if you are wanting to get good at something, go against your emotions. Start acting like you have already won and your emotions will slowly change and align themselves with what you want to become. What’s stopping you?? Identify that and change it, cut it off, changing who you are as a person will change your emotions towards life.
If you want something, do it, don’t wait for your friend, approval from family or even to see if others succeed first. If you want it, do it for yourself. Never accept yourself as a finished product, you should continuously be expanding your capabilities and who you are as a person. I personally don’t know why people limit themselves to just getting by and surviving, come on no one just wants to get by in life, I can only really speak for myself in saying I never want to struggle and just live an average life but I made the decision to get up and do something about it. Self-development costs nothing!
One thing I have learnt is that no one will care about your desire to succeed, no one cares about how much time you have spent shooting and the work you have put in, its all irrelevant. At the end of the day all people see is a winner or a looser, you either won or you simply did not, it’s a hard reality to accept. Everything leading up to it, the hard work, dedication, it all remains simply with you even when you are seeing no immediate validation. I know for a fact when shooting big gigs the photographer is always the last person thought about and in terms of the job all the client cares about is getting those final images. If success came at the snap of a finger we would all have a D4s and a huge range of lenses, but that’s not the way things work. When you make the decision to be different, to give up time for something greater, you have committed to the time of your life. That commitment will push you to achieve things you never knew you could. When the time comes and you achieved the things you were aiming for, you can smile at the world who are oblivious to the price that you paid, for the things you have sacrificed, the pain you have endured to reach your potential. But at the end of the day you know what it has taken and there is no better gratification then that!!
Your relentlessness to achieving your goal is what separates you from those who sit on the sidelines waiting for something to happen. Nothing good just falls into your hands.
You are responsible for your own life and what you become, never let anyone influence your decisions, it has to come from you!
It’s easy to come up with excuses as to why you can’t do something. If you do what is easy your life will be hard, its easy to make an excuse, its easy to complain, its easy to say no, its easy to sleep in an extra hour. Now if you do what is hard that’s when things actually start materialize, wake up early, say yes to things that need to be done, don’t complain, if you fail at something keep doing it until it’s done. Most good things are hard to get but working hard for it makes it that much better when it finally comes through.
I will end off with a quote I recently heard – “ Most people choose their path out of fear disguised as practicality”
Practical just sounds boring right…
The Reward for hard work is the opportunity to do more!!
